They also offer financial counseling to their clients along with devising financial portfolios for them. A stock broker also offers assistance to their clients on the purchase or sale of securities. Being an extremely volatile field, to succeed as a stock broker one need to have experience in areas such as economics, accountancy, finance, investment planning and capital market analysis. One needs to have a strong hold on how the entire market works and other related areas such as business finance, mathematics, accountancy, economics and computers.

There are many institutes that provide short term courses in stock trading and financial markets. National Stock Exchange has a course named Certificate in Financial Markets, an online certificate program. The Securities and Exchange Board of India has established National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM). NISM also offers various diploma and certificate programs. Graduates can easily become stock brokers with an experience of 2 years in a stock broking firm. Also students with a post graduation in economics, business, commerce and finance can also enter this profession.
