About Probationary officer (PO)/ Management Trainee (MT)
Bank Probationary officer (PO) is also addressed as Management Trainee (MT) or Junior Officer Management Grade Scale I. It is the most promising career and it is full of opportunities. Bank PO/MT is primary level position in officer’s category in public sector banks. Bank PO/MT is selected in two phases: online objective exams followed by interview. She/he has to work for some duration on probation period. Different banks have different probation periods during which they will be given intensive training and towards end of their probation / training period, they will be subjected to a screening process. After Bank PO/MT gets confirmed then they are given placement in the next higher grade i.e. Officer Middle Management Grade Scale II.
A Bank PO/MT performs task for various banking operations involving accounts (saving, current, fixed deposit) and foreign exchange dealings. After successful completion of the probation period, she/he can also be asked to post, pass or scroll cash related to banking and handle loans, mortgages and investments.

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS)
IBPS is an organization working since last 40 years. IBPS conducts Common Written Exam (CWE) for recruitment of POs/ MTs on behalf of 20 nationalized banks. It conducts a wide spectrum of activities in personnel for recruitment, selection and promotion once in a year in these 20 nationalized banks viz.

- Law officer
- Technical officer
- HR/Personnel Officer
- Marketing Officer

Besides Probationary officer (PO) and Specialist Officers (SO) IBPS also conducts Common Written Exam (CWE) for different posts in Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) i.e. Officer Scale (I, II, III) & Office Assistant.
State Bank of India (SBI)
The State Bank of India is the country’s oldest bank and has widespread network in India. It is headquartered in Mumbai. SBI conducts online objective prelim and mains exams which are followed by GD and Interview for probationary officers for its bank. Recently its associate banks viz. State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Travancore and State Bank of Mysore have got merged into it.
