All India Law Entrance Test (AILET)

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is conducted to take admission into B.A., LL.B. Hons. (undergraduate programme) and LL.M (postgraduate programme) in law by National Law University (NLU), Delhi. The National Law University, Delhi was established in 2008 by Act No. 1 of 2008 is premier Law University established in the capital city of India.

For Undergraduate programme (B.A., L.L.B. Hons.)

The Eligibility criteria for AILET:  

  • The candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination thereto securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks. The Candidates appearing in the 12th Standard Examination in March / April, 2016 can also apply.
  • The candidate should be less than 21 years of age as on 1st July in the year of admission. However, in cases of SC or ST candidates the maximum age limit shall be 23 years as on the above date.
  • The candidate should have got selected at the All India Entrance Test held by National Law University, Delhi

For Postgraduate (LL. M.) Programme

The Eligibility criteria for AILET: 

  • The candidate should have passed the LL.B. or an equivalent degree from a recognized university with not less than 55% marks on aggregate (50% in case of reserved categories, i.e. SC/ST/Persons with Disability).
  • Admission of foreign nationals shall be made on the basis of academic record of LL.B. or equivalent degree recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities with not less than 55% marks or the equivalent grade.

Admission Procedure for LL.M.

  • The admission shall be through a written test to be conducted by the University, followed by an interview.
  • Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination can appear for the Entrance Test subject to the condition that they produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed percentage of marks at the time of interview.

Application Procedure

Interested candidates may apply along with a Demand Draft of Rs.3,000/- (Rupees Three Thousand Only) for General Candidates, Rs.1,000/- (Rupees  One thousand only) in case of SC / ST  and Persons with Disability (PD) drawn in favor of  “REGISTER, NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, DELHI", payable at Delhi along with copies of requisite Caste / Person with Disability Certificate. Below Poverty Line (BPL) applicants of SC / ST category are exempted from application fee. The students can also apply online for admission.

Availability of Seats

For UG course:

There are total 80 seats. Out of which 70 seats get occupied on merit basis through All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and 10 seats are filled by direct admission to Foreign Nationals. Foreign Nationals to be eligible should have 65% marks in the qualifying examination.  

For PG course:

Out of total 20 seats 5 seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals. For PG Programme Foreign Nationals are exempted from AILET tests.   

Seats under reservation

The selection shall be strictly on the basis of merit as determined by the Entrance Test subject to reservation of 15% for Scheduled Caste candidates, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe candidates and 3% for Persons with Disability.

Centers for AILET

AILET to be conducted at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Tiruchirappalli and Patna.

Exams & Results

AILET exam is usually conducted in the first week of May. Regarding results it was noted for the year 2016 that the Admission to B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) course of the National Law University, Delhi, was based on the following minimum eligibility criteria:

i) 60 Marks & above for candidates belonging to General, Persons with Disabilities and Kashmiri Migrants.

ii) 45 Marks & above for candidates belonging to SC and ST category.
