National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program conducted by the NCERT - National Council of Education Research and Training in India, to identify and recognize students with high intellect and academic talent. It is widely regarded as the toughest and most prestigious examination at high school level in the country.

 NTSE Perks :

  • NTSE awards 1000 scholarships each year to students.

    “As per 1st July 2014 notification of NTSE  cell, the scholarship amount has been enhanced from Rs 500 to

  1. Rs 1250/- per month for class 11th and 12th
  2. Rs 2000/- per month for under graduates and post graduates
  3. Amount of Scholarship for Ph. D will be in accordance to UGC norms”
  • Aids students to proliferate their mental level and also helps them to sharpen their minds.
  • NTSE awardees studying in Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages Commerce, vocational studies and fine arts are eligible to receive scholarship up to Ph.D. level.
  • NTSE awardees studying professional courses in medicines, engineering, technology, management and law, are eligible to receive the scholarship up to second degree level.


NTSE consists of two stages.

Stage-I: Selection is done by States/UTs usually in the month of November.

Stage-II: Students who qualify Stage-I, are eligible to appear for second-stage examination, conducted by NCERT usually in the month of May.

The students who qualify both the stages of NTSE successfully are eligible for scholarship. The amount of scholarship is Rs. 1250/- per month for all the students studying in Class XI and XII . Rs 2000 for undergraduate and postgraduate levels. And amount of scholarship for Ph.D is fixed as per UGC norms.


All the students of Class X studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for Stage-I examination, conducted by the States/UTs. There is no domicile restriction. 


The pattern of written examination for both the stages will be as follows:

1. Mental Ability Test (MAT) (50 questions of 50 marks with time duration of 45 minutes)

2. Language Test (LT) English / Hindi (50 questions of 50 marks with time duration of 45 minutes)

3. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) (100 questions of 100 marks with time duration of 90 minutes)

Note: At Stage II (National level) there will be negative marking in each paper. For each wrong answer 1/3rd mark will be deducted. No marks will be deducted for un attempted questions.
