SSC CGL 2016 Exam Notification

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) invites applications for Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL), for recruitment to posts of Assistants in Central Secretariat Service/ Central Vigilance Commission/ Intelligence Bureau/Ministry of Railway /External affairs/ AHFQ and other ministries and departments;  posts of Inspectors in Income Tax/ Central Excise/ Preventive Officer/ Examiner/ Post/ Central Bureau of Narcotics, Assistant enforcement officer, Sub Inspector in CBI/ NIA/CBN, Divisional Accountants under offices CAG, Inspector under CBN, Statistical Investigator Gr.II; Auditors under C& AG/ CGDA/ CGA; Accountants or juniors under C& AG/CGA; Upper Division Clerk; Tax Assistants in CBDT/ CBEC and Compiler in Registrar General of India.

Online registration begins from 13.02.2016. Registration will be done in parts.  Closing Date is 14.03.2016 (upto 5.00 PM). Part-I registration will be upto 10.03.2016 (5.00PM) & Part-II registration will be upto 14.03.2016 (5.00PM).

*Note: In order to simplify the process of filling of application for various examinations in SSC, and to make it more convenient for candidates, the Commission has made certain changes in its online application procedure. In order to avoid the need for filling in same details again and again, the Commission has modified the online application procedure by dividing it into two parts. Part one relates to registration which will store/ save basic details of the candidates in permanent data-base of the Commission. And the candidate can fill in the registration part any time throughout the year. The other part is the application part. The candidates will not have to fill in basic details which have been already captured in the registration part. In the application part, the candidate can simplify fill in the data relating to specific examination they want to apply for.   3. Assistant Section Officer (Central Secretariat Service) – 20 to 30
  4. Assistant in Intelligence Bureau – 21 to 27
  5. Assistant Enforcement Officer(Directorate of Enforcement, Department of Revenue)/  Assistant Audit Officer (Indian Audit & Accounts Department under CAG ) – upto 30 years
  6. Statistical Investigator Gr.II – Upto 32 years

Educational Qualification (As on 1st August 2016)

1. For Compiler: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or elective subject.

2. For Statistical Investigator Grade –II: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from recognized university or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at the 12th Standard level:


Bachelor’s degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

3. All other Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

4. For post of Assistant Section Officer (CSS) - Candidates need to have computer proficiency test qualification.

5. Assistant Audit Officer: a) Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute b) Desirable Qualifications for the Post of Assistant Audit Officer: Chartered Accountant or cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.

The Exam

Scheme of the Examination for Combined Graduate Level Examination: The Examination will be conducted in three tiers as indicated below:

Tier -I -- Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)

Tier -II -- Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)

Tier -III -- Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/ Document Verification

  • The examination will consist of objective type paper based written examination.
  • The Commission reserves the right to make changes in the scheme of examination such as conduct of Tier-I and Tier-II examination in computer based mode, treating Tier-I examination as only qualifying etc.
  • There will be no interview.
  • The written test will followed by skill test or computer proficiency test or physical test as per the demand of the post.

Tier I : Pattern for the Exam

The written exam will consist of objective type papers of 2 hours for all and 2 hours 40 mins for visually handicapped.

  1. General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Questions of 50 Marks)
  2. General Awareness (50 Questions of 50 Marks)
  3. Quantitative Aptitude (50 questions of 50 marks)
  4. English Language and Comprehension (50 Questions of  50 marks)

Tier II: Pattern for the Exam:

Tier-II of the Combined Graduate Level Examination -2016 will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice and will be conducted over a period of two days. Tentative dates for CGL (Tier -II) Exam are 13.08.2016 (Saturday) & 14.08.2016 (Sunday).

The written exam will consist of objective type papers of 2 hours for all and 2 hours 40 mins for visually handicapped.

  1. Quantitative Aptitude (100 questions of 200 marks)
  2. English Language and Comprehension (200 questions of 200 marks)
  3. Statistics (100 questions of 200 marks)
  4. General Studies (Finance and Economics) (200 marks)


Paper I and II are compulsory for all posts. Paper III is for those who are appearing in Statistical Investigator Gr.II and Compiler.

Paper IV is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.

There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Tier-I. In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 marks in Paper-II and 0.50 marks in Paper-I and Paper-III for each wrong answer.

Skill Test (Tax Assistants in Income Tax/ Central Excise)

Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Written Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will only be called for the Skill Test. The skill test will be of qualifying nature and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates.

The candidates need to have data entry speed of 8000 key depressions per hour. The matter will have to be transcribed on computer only.

  • The online registration will be done in parts.
  • Part 1 registration demands basic information.
  • Part 2 registration demands uploading of scanned photos and signatures and payment details.
  • Mode of payment is online as well as offline.
  • The candidates submitting their applications on-Line should pay the requisite fee only through State Bank of India either in the form of challan or through SBI Net Banking/any Credit or Debit Card. Challan form will be generated on-line.
  • Online payment can be done through SBI net banking, Credit and Debit cards.
  • For offline payment of fee in cash, Challan form will be generated online.
  • Deposit the requisite fee in pay branch of State Bank of India.
  • Proceed with part 2 registration process.

Application fee and Intimation charge: Non Refundable

The application fees is Rs.100. Fee is exempted for all Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation, as per Government orders.
