Staff Selection Commission (SSC)
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an Indian organization for recruitment of staff in government post. Earlier in the year 1975 the government of India, noticed that the bulk of the staff of the Government at the Centre and in the States belonged to Class III and Class IV categories. So, the Government of India, via its Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms constituted a Commission called the Subordinate Services Commission which was eventually re-designated as Staff Selection Commission to make recruitment to various Class III (now Group “C”) (non-technical) posts in the various Ministries/Departments of the Govt. of India and in Subordinate Offices. It also carries out the recruitment to all Group “B” posts.
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Regional/Sub-regional offices
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has a nationwide network of 9 regional/sub-regional offices. Each Regional Office is headed by a Regional Director and each Sub-Regional office is headed by a Deputy Director.
SSC-ER stands for Staff Selection Commission Eastern Region
SSC-SR stands for Staff Selection Commission Southern Region
SSC-WR stands for Staff Selection Commission Western Region.
SSC-CR stands for Staff Selection Commission Central Region.
SSC-NR stands for Staff Selection Commission Northern Region.
SSC-NWR stands for Staff Selection Commission North Western Sub-Region.
SSC-MPR stands for Staff Selection Commission Madhya Pradesh Sub Region.
SSC-NER stands for Staff Selection Commission North Eastern Region.
SSC-KKR stands for Staff Selection Commission Kerala-Karnataka Region.
SSC broadly conducts two types of examinations.
1. SSC Open Examination : It covers many examinations, but we are chiefly concerned with Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) and Combined Matric Level Examination. It is interesting to note that both of these exams share same syllabus and exam pattern. But they vary in the posts and eligibility criteria. For the eligibility criteria of Combined Matric Level Examination candidate must have passed 12th standard or equivalent or higher examination from a recognized Board or University.

Recruitment to isolated Post (selection)
Besides recruitment through All India Open Competitive Examinations, Staff Selection commission also makes recruitment to Group ‘C’ Non-Technical and Group ‘B’ Non-gazetted Posts which are not covered by any of the Open Examinations conducted by the Commission. Such vacancies generally are small in number and qualifications for such posts vary from department to department. These are isolated posts, which are also known as Selection Posts. SSC conducts direct interview for recruitment in the same. Staff Selection Commission judges candidate’s academic qualifications, knowledge of the subjects studied, personality, aptitude and suitability for the post under consideration.
Notice for recruitment to Selection Posts is issued in the Employment News / Rozgar Samachar and also hosted on the website of the Commission/Regional Offices of the Commission. Notice for Group'C' posts is issued by the Regional Offices of the Commission and Notice for Group'B' posts is issued by the Headquarters of the Commission.
