TOEFL TIP A DAY: TWO
Speaking: The accent
Many candidates applying for US courses think they need to speak in American accent during the speaking section of the TOEFL. That is not only untrue but also downright absurd!
TIP: Understand that TOEFL stands for Test of English as Foreign Language. This is a given that most candidates’ native language is not English. You are not expected to pick up a certain accent to speak but you are required to speak clearly. If you attempt to speak in an accent (such as American) in which you are not normally accustomed to, chances are you will make more mistakes in either clarity or pronunciation. Speak naturally and clearly.
